Lagos State Investigates Alleged Substance Use at Excel College

The Lagos State Government has initiated an investigation into a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows students of Excel College, located at No. 15 Ansarudeen Street, Off Egbe Road, Ejigbo, engaging in the use of substances suspected to be marijuana within the school hostel.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, confirmed the development through the ministry’s Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Kayode Sutton.

The video has prompted public concern, with several individuals requesting that the school administration be held accountable.

In response, Commissioner Alli-Balogun stated: “The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is aware of the matter, and the relevant agency has directed a thorough investigation and further necessary action.”

He added that a special investigative panel from the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has been assigned to examine the incident.

The commissioner reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy regarding substance use in schools and emphasized the importance of conducting a full investigation to determine the facts.

He assured the public that appropriate steps will be taken following the outcome of the inquiry.
