Sokoto Government Adjusts 2025 Budget, Moves ₦38.8bn to Priority Sectors

The Sokoto State government has announced a major adjustment to its 2025 budget, reallocating ₦38.81 billion to key sectors in a bid to strengthen execution and improve overall performance.

At a media briefing following Tuesday’s State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Abubakar Zayanna, said the amendment was aimed at creating a more practical and efficient fiscal plan. He noted that the overall budget size remains unchanged at ₦526.88 billion, but funds were redirected from underperforming areas to more pressing needs.

According to Zayanna, the review involved trimming back expenditure lines tied to projected revenues that were unlikely to be realised, while boosting allocations in sectors where revenues had performed better than expected. The commissioner expressed optimism that the adjustment would enable the state to achieve between 70 and 80 percent budget implementation before year-end.

He added that the move would also prevent money from being locked up in inactive projects, ensuring that every naira is channelled toward activities with immediate impact.

In addition, the council approved road works on Ali-Akilu Road and Abdullahi Podi Road to address flood damage and improve water flow in affected communities. Officials said the projects would help ease residents’ challenges while preventing further environmental and infrastructure risks.

The revised budget will be submitted to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval before implementation begins.
