Tinubu’s Government Shrugs Off Atiku-Obi Alliance

The federal government has downplayed the possibility of a political merger between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi affecting President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during a political interview, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, dismissed the merger talks as outdated and ineffective. According to him, such moves are recycled tactics that lack real impact.

Keyamo criticized the opposition for what he described as hypocrisy, accusing certain figures of flaunting luxury lifestyles while presenting themselves as defenders of the poor.

He emphasized that the focus should remain on the administration’s performance, especially in economic recovery. He pointed to stable foreign reserves, improved revenue generation, and currency stability as indicators that the economy is on the right path.

The minister also argued that inflation and food price concerns, often raised by the opposition, fail to account for the broader structural reforms underway. “They’re using emotional arguments, but they don’t tell the full story,” he said.

Speaking on electoral math, Keyamo was confident that combining votes from Atiku and Obi in 2023 would still fall short of what Tinubu secured. He further predicted that Obi’s influence would diminish if he accepts a secondary role, especially among young and faith-driven voters who had previously supported him.
