Open Contracting Platform Helps Government Save N173 Billion in Six Months

The Nigerian government has recorded savings of over N173 billion in the first half of 2025 through the use of its Open Contracting Portal (NOCOPO), which enhances transparency and cost-efficiency in public procurement.

The development was disclosed by the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, during the signing of a cooperation agreement between the BPP and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) in Abuja.

According to Adedokun, the savings — which are equivalent to approximately $155 million and €1.7 million — were achieved through improved price benchmarking and smarter procurement oversight enabled by NOCOPO’s digital processes.

“These savings are tangible and have real impact, freeing up funds that can now be redirected toward vital sectors like education, healthcare, and support for small and medium-sized businesses,” he explained.

Adedokun emphasized that the portal continues to play a key role in plugging financial leakages and promoting accountability in public sector contracting.
