Osun APC, PDP Clash Over Alleged Plans by Governor Adeleke to Defect

Tensions between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have intensified following allegations that Governor Ademola Adeleke attempted to defect to the opposition party.

The claim, which has sparked heated political exchanges, was made by the Osun APC, which described the governor’s alleged move as an act of desperation and a reflection of fear ahead of the 2026 elections.

The APC accused Governor Adeleke of seeking a safe landing in their party after reportedly assessing his declining popularity. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party claimed that Adeleke approached their leaders but was turned away because he would bring more harm than good to their platform. The APC alleged that Adeleke’s public support for President Bola Tinubu is a facade, pointing out that members of the PDP in the state regularly speak ill of the President.

Responding to the allegations, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated. He stated that Governor Adeleke has no intention of leaving the PDP and will seek re-election under its banner. Bisi maintained that the PDP remains united and focused on performance-driven governance rather than propaganda.

He further asserted that the PDP is confident of victory in the next gubernatorial election, arguing that the party’s track record of service and development in the state will speak louder than any smear campaign. According to Bisi, the people of Osun will stand by the PDP and defend their mandate at the polls.
