Delta State Approves Massive Infrastructure Drive Worth ₦230 Billion

The Delta State Government has given the green light to an ambitious infrastructure development programme valued at over ₦230 billion. The plan includes major flyover constructions, road expansion projects, and improvements in flood control, transportation, healthcare, and education.

Among the flagship projects is a ₦59 billion flyover at Uromi Junction in Agbor, to be executed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. Another flyover will be constructed at Otouwodo on the Asaba–Ughelli Road, estimated at ₦39.3 billion. Additionally, the government approved the dualisation of the Sapele Road in Effurun at a cost of ₦35 billion.

Other roadworks will cover critical areas across Warri North, Patani, Sapele, and Benin Expressway corridors, as well as neighborhoods in Asaba and Mosogar. A separate ₦15.3 billion allocation was made for flood mitigation in Agbor, while ₦5.6 billion will go towards similar efforts in Asaba’s Summit area.

The administration also set aside ₦10 billion for compensation to residents affected by the Second Niger Bridge construction. In the healthcare sector, ₦7.1 billion was approved for the procurement of modern medical equipment for general hospitals. Retirement benefits totaling ₦1.2 billion were also cleared for 132 staff of Delta State University.

To ensure efficiency, the state terminated dormant contracts awarded by previous administrations. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized that the new approvals are part of his commitment to upgrading infrastructure and enhancing living standards across the state.
