BREAKING: Binani Quits APC, Joins ADC in Political Shake-Up

Senator Aishatu Ahmed, widely known as Binani, has officially severed ties with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and announced her defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that could reshape the political dynamics in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Binani’s switch comes quietly but strategically. Over the weekend in Yola, she revealed her decision in the presence of her loyal supporters, according to her media aide, Maulud Usman. Though the announcement lacked fanfare or media coverage, Usman confirmed plans are underway for a formal unveiling event to welcome her into the ADC fold.

Her departure from the APC follows increasing internal tensions within the party, and it coincides with reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also aligned with the ADC as part of a broader realignment to challenge the ruling party in 2027.

Binani, who made headlines in 2022 for clinching the APC governorship ticket by defeating five male contenders—a rare achievement in northern Nigerian politics—ran a spirited campaign in 2023 but narrowly lost to the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.

Her latest move is already being viewed by political observers as a potential game-changer, signaling the ADC’s growing appeal among disillusioned political heavyweights.

The ADC is reportedly emerging as the preferred platform for a coalition of influential figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai. This coalition is expected to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in the upcoming election cycle.

In a related development, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has stepped down from his role as APC National Chairman, citing health reasons. His resignation adds to the growing list of political shifts reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
