BREAKING: Tinubu Arrives Katsina for Buhari’s Burial
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport in Katsina to attend the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Nigerian leader touched down at approximately 1:48 pm and was received by a host of governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, and other top government officials.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the remains of former President Buhari departed London for Nigeria aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, ahead of his final interment in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
According to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, President Tinubu will personally receive the body of the late President upon arrival in Katsina. A brief military ceremony is expected to be held at the airport before the body is transported to Daura.
“The Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will take place thereafter, followed by interment at the late President’s residence,” Idris stated during a Monday press briefing in Abuja.
He also revealed that condolence registers have been ordered to be opened across all Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as Nigerian embassies and missions abroad. Another register will be placed at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Idris disclosed that world leaders have continued to send in messages of condolence, describing them as “a testament to the global stature and legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
To ensure a dignified and seamless burial process, the President has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. The committee is working in collaboration with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.
Additionally, 25 members of the Federal Executive Council have been directed to travel to Katsina for the funeral and to remain in Daura for the Third-Day prayers scheduled for Wednesday.
