CSCHEI Hails NUPRC’s ₦12.25tn Revenue Surge, Urges Deeper Community Ties

A United Nations-recognized civil society group, Civil Society Organizations on Community Development and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), has lauded the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for its outstanding revenue performance in 2024.

According to the group, NUPRC generated ₦12.25 trillion in revenue during the year—surpassing the projected ₦6.93 trillion. The commendation came in a statement issued Tuesday by CSCHEI’s Director of New Media and Communication, Danladi Haruna.

CSCHEI noted that the agency’s effective strategies, commitment to innovation, and adherence to transparency frameworks have positioned it as a model institution in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

“We commend the leadership of NUPRC for pragmatic and strategic administration that delivered ₦12.25 trillion in 2024 revenue. This performance far exceeded expectations and deserves to be highlighted as a benchmark for other revenue-generating agencies,” Haruna said.

The group also aligned itself with the recent advisory report by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), which praised NUPRC for the transparent and inclusive handling of the 2022–2023 mini bid round and the 2024 licensing round. It said the Commission demonstrated strong procedural integrity, compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), and best practices consistent with global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) standards.

However, CSCHEI urged NUPRC to deepen civil engagement with host communities and called on International Oil Companies (IOCs) to expand their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in oil-producing areas.

“The Commission must strengthen its civil interface with communities, ensuring host areas feel the impact of oil-related revenues. Likewise, IOCs must take their CSR seriously and deliver sustainable benefits to their host environments,” the statement added.

In a related development, CSCHEI called on the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to design a localised capacity-building framework that supports national economic goals, especially in light of federal policies limiting overseas training and scholarships.

The group further urged the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to implement transparent and effective monitoring systems to ensure equitable access to student loans, particularly for underprivileged Nigerians with no political ties.

CSCHEI reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance while holding public institutions to high standards of performance.
