Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Bail on Self-Recognition

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on self-recognition following her arraignment on a six-count charge related to alleged cybercrime offenses.

The charges involve claims that she made false and damaging statements against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. These allegations were reportedly made during a televised interview, where she accused both men of conspiring to have her assassinated.

The Federal Government contends that her statements were knowingly false and intended to incite public unrest, in violation of the Cybercrimes Act.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her legal team, led by Professor Roland Otaru (SAN), requested bail on self-recognition, citing her status as a senator and senior legal practitioner. The prosecution did not oppose the application, and Justice Mohammed Umar granted the request, stating that the offenses are bailable and she is not considered a flight risk.

The case has been adjourned to September 22 for further proceedings.
