Tinubu, Denmark Deepen Ties on Livestock, Education, Aid

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for enhanced bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark in livestock development, education, agribusiness, and humanitarian aid.

This appeal came during an official state visit by Queen Mary Elizabeth II of Denmark at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Queen’s historic first visit to Nigeria was made in her capacity as Patron of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Boosting Nigeria’s Livestock and Dairy Sector

President Tinubu emphasized the critical role of Nigeria’s livestock and dairy sectors in job creation, food security, and resolving long-standing herder-farmer conflicts. “We can transform friction into structured economic opportunity and build education pathways for farmers and herders,” he said, stressing the importance of rural development and poverty alleviation.

He applauded Danish firms such as A.P. Moller–Maersk and Grundfos for supporting Nigeria’s agricultural logistics and infrastructure.

Population-Driven Reforms and Education

Addressing Nigeria’s rapidly growing population—projected to exceed 400 million by 2050—the President reaffirmed his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, targeting reforms in education, health care, and employment. He noted that macroeconomic reforms are essential to attract foreign investment and grow the nation’s production base.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu called for integrating traditional Islamic schools into the formal education system to tackle the rising number of out-of-school children and welcomed Danish support in expanding school feeding initiatives.

Queen Mary’s Commitment to Humanitarian and Development Goals

Queen Mary expressed Denmark’s interest in investing in green energy, women-led businesses, and child health initiatives in Nigeria. She acknowledged the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country’s northeast and praised the First Lady’s work, affirming Denmark’s dedication to expanding cultural and educational exchanges.
