FG Responds to US Travel Prohibition on Nigerian Government Sites

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially responded to a recent security alert issued by the United States Embassy, which restricts U.S. employees and their families from non-official visits to military sites and government facilities in Abuja.

In a statement released Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reaffirmed that “Abuja remains safe for citizens, residents, and visitors alike.” He urged Nigerians to go about their lawful activities without fear, stating that the advisory was precautionary and tied to broader global developments rather than specific local threats.

The U.S. Mission’s advisory had cited increased security concerns and advised American citizens to avoid large gatherings and adopt safety-conscious behaviors like varying routines and knowing emergency exits.

Minister Idris emphasized that Nigeria’s security architecture has been proactive and continues to make gains in detecting and neutralizing threats. He assured that all diplomatic missions, development partners, and investors are safe and welcomed in the Federal Capital Territory.

He concluded by encouraging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities while underscoring that Nigerian security forces are fully prepared to respond to potential threats.
