The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, along with National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Ogbonna Chukwuma, over serious allegations of financial misconduct.

In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the decision follows what the party describes as “overwhelming evidence” of unauthorized transactions, embezzlement, and diversion of funds. The NWC disclosed that the trio had allegedly moved funds from the party’s accounts without proper approvals and submitted an unauthorized financial report to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party has since reported the matter to law enforcement and constituted an interim investigative panel to audit all financial records. According to Aiyenigba, the suspended officials are linked to the mismanagement of hundreds of millions of naira, including revenues from nomination form sales during the 2023 general elections.

To maintain party stability, Deputy National Chairman (North), Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, has stepped in as Acting National Chairman. The party emphasized that this action reflects its commitment to accountability and zero tolerance for corruption.

The suspensions take immediate effect and have been communicated to INEC and other relevant authorities.
