Ondo Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader Step Down

In a surprising political shake-up, the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan, and the Majority Leader, Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi, have officially resigned from their positions.

Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency 1, and Ogunmolasuyi, from Owo Constituency 1, both belong to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Their resignations were formally announced during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Olamide Oladiji.

The sudden departures led to immediate replacements: Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, was appointed as the new Deputy Speaker, while Olatunji Oshati, from Ose State Constituency, stepped in as the new Majority Leader.

Akinruntan cited political power-sharing arrangements as the primary reason for his resignation. Sources indicate that his exit may be linked to the fact that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa hails from the same constituency, making it politically untenable for both to occupy top leadership positions simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Ogunmolasuyi’s resignation triggered further shifts within the assembly leadership, with Oshati assuming his role.

As the political landscape in Ondo continues to evolve, analysts suggest that the developments could have broader implications for party dynamics in the state.
