The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Eze-Onyebuchi Chukwu, has urged Atiku Abubakar to step aside from the 2027 presidential election and instead support a young, credible candidate.

In a statement issued on Friday, Chukwu argued that Nigeria’s older politicians should begin transferring leadership to a new generation. He emphasized that Atiku has contested multiple elections since 2015 and should now focus on mentoring younger leaders rather than running again.

Chukwu recalled his role as convener of Atikunation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2019, stating that he had invested time and resources in supporting Atiku because he believed the former vice president would prioritize youth empowerment. However, he expressed disappointment that Atiku continues to seek the presidency despite previous losses.

He suggested that if Atiku insists on running, it may be more strategic to support Tinubu for a second term, provided he commits to handing over power to a young leader in 2031.

Chukwu stressed that Nigerian youths are ready to back any candidate who makes a clear and binding pledge to support generational transition in 2031.
