In a bid to quell rising tensions and prevent further violence, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State on Internal Security, Hon. Tobias Ogbonna, has advised residents of
Izhiangbo community to refrain from retaliatory actions following the shocking murder of one of their own.
During a press conference held at Ezzangbo, Hon. Ogbonna emphasized the importance of peace and urged community members to avoid any actions that could escalate the situation or compromise the security of neighboring local governments. His statement comes in the wake of a tragic incident last week along the Ezza Oshegbe Road, where a local businessman
Identified as Chinedu ominyi from Umuegera Izhia was brutally killed.
Reports indicate that the victim, identified as Chinedu ominyi, a casket dealer, was stabbed in the neck after his l transaction at a point-of-sale terminal. It is alleged that while returning home, the victim offered a ride to another individual, who subsequently attacked him with a kitchen knife.
“The unfortunate reality is that no amount of retaliation will bring back our deceased brother,” Hon. Ogbonna stated, highlighting the futility of vengeance. “We must seek peace and allow the law to take its course.”
He further explained that after the murder, the suspect attempted to mislead authorities by claiming he was involved in an accident. It was only through thorough investigation that law enforcement were able to uncover the truth. Consequently, security personnel intervened, retrieved the suspect, and took the victim’s body to the mortuary with the assistance of local government officials.
“We are grateful for the swift response from the chairman of the Ohaukwu Local Government, the State Commissioner for capital city development and my office in managing the aftermath of this tragic event,” Ogbonna noted.
Community leaders and members of the
Izhiangbo community are now being urged to cooperate with law enforcement and prioritize peace as investigations continue.
The Governor’s aide reassured residents that the government is committed to ensuring justice and maintaining security in his jurisdiction.
As the community grapples with this devastating loss, Hon. Ogbonna’s call for restraint highlights the delicate balance between justice and the need for stability within the local Government.
