Breaking: Tinubu Appoints New NNPC Boss, Sacks Mele Kyari
President Bola Tinubu has named Bayo Ojulari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), following the removal of Mele Kyari from the position.
The announcement was made in the early hours of Wednesday, April 2, 2025, through a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy.
Prior to this appointment, Ojulari served as the Chairman of BAT Advisory and Energy Company and previously held the role of Managing Director at Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) between 2015 and 2021. His extensive experience in the energy sector is expected to bring significant leadership to NNPCL.

In addition to Ojulari’s appointment, several other significant changes were made within the NNPCL management. Adedapo Segun, who assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer in November 2024, was appointed to the new board, marking another key shift in the company’s leadership. Other new appointments include a range of non-executive directors representing the country’s diverse regions. These include Bello Rabiu from the North West, Yusuf Usman from the North East, and Babs Omotowa, former managing director of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), representing the North Central region. From the South South, Austin Avuru has been named a non-executive director, while David Ige will represent the South West and Henry Obih will represent the South East.
Additionally, Lydia Shehu Jafiya, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, will serve as the ministry’s representative on the board, while Aminu Said Ahmed will represent the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
