An early morning jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, resulted in the escape of 12 inmates.

Kogi State Information Commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as regrettable and assured citizens that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is committed to preventing future occurrences.

He revealed that one of the escapees has already been apprehended, adding, “The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns. This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system.”

Governor Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to ensure that such breaches do not happen again. Fanwo also urged the public to report any suspicious individuals and warned that harboring escapees would result in strict consequences.

“There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” Fanwo reassured.
