El-Rufai Joins SDP: A New Chapter in Nigerian Politics

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) after expressing dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and direction.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, reflected on his contributions to the party’s success but lamented its deviation from the progressive values it once upheld.
In a statement, El-Rufai explained that his decision to leave was driven by a growing disconnect between his personal principles and the current trajectory of the APC. He noted that despite raising concerns both privately and publicly, the party’s leadership showed no willingness to address the challenges within its ranks.
El-Rufai highlighted his achievements during his tenure as Kaduna State Governor, emphasizing his commitment to progressive policies in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation. However, he expressed disappointment that the APC no longer aligned with the vision of its founding members.
Announcing his move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), El-Rufai described the decision as a step towards pursuing his political ideals on a platform that prioritizes progressive reforms. He called on opposition parties to unite under a common democratic front to challenge the APC in future elections and work towards a better future for Nigeria.
El-Rufai concluded by urging Nigerians to join him in the SDP, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to achieve national progress. He expressed hope that this new chapter in his political career would inspire meaningful change and strengthen democracy in the country.
