PDP Governors Step In to Resolve Party Crisis, Set Date for NEC Meeting

In a bid to resolve the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), state Governors elected on the party’s ticket have called for a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to be held on March 13, 2025. The announcement was made after a meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, expressed the group’s satisfaction with the ongoing efforts to resolve the dispute surrounding the position of the National Secretary within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He reiterated the Forum’s support for the recent Court of Appeal judgment and urged the NWC to take the necessary steps to implement the ruling effectively.

“We have advised the NWC to reschedule the NEC meeting for March 13, 2025, to ensure that the process is in line with legal requirements and that the party’s internal issues are addressed,” Governor Mohammed stated.

The Forum also commended the efforts of the PDP Governors in their states, highlighting their contributions to improving the lives of citizens through impactful policies and developmental programs. They emphasized that these measures are aimed at laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth in their respective regions.

The governors expressed concerns about the rise of non-state actors threatening national security, calling for strengthened security measures across the country. They also praised Nigeria’s Armed Forces and security agencies for their continued efforts to combat banditry and other security challenges.

In his welcome address, the host governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host the meeting. He highlighted the significant strides made in Delta under PDP governance, including improvements in infrastructure, human capital development, and peacekeeping efforts. Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the PDP’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens has been central to the state’s progress.

“We are continuing to build on the foundation of development and inclusion. Our party’s allegiance remains firmly with the people, and we will continue to ensure progress and prosperity for all,” he said.

The meeting saw the attendance of prominent PDP governors, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, among others.

The PDP Governors’ Forum concluded the meeting with a renewed call for unity and a commitment to addressing the challenges facing the party and the nation, promising to return Nigeria to its former days of stability, security, and prosperity under the PDP administration.
