Ebonyi NUJ Fumes, Threatens Clampdown On Sahara Reporters Over Alleged Junk Journalism

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi State Council has issued a strong condemnation of Sahara Reporters for their recent attacks on the Ebonyi State Government.

The Council expressed dismay over Sahara Reporters’ disregard for ethical journalism by publishing falsehoods, fake news, and incomplete reports about Ebonyi State and its government, seemingly to serve the interests of undisclosed benefactors.

In a statement signed by the Ebonyi State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nwafor Samson, the Council stated that it had carefully reviewed all the reports published by Sahara Reporters about Ebonyi State, and found them to be lacking in journalistic principles and integrity.

The Council firmly denounced Sahara Reporters’ publications, labeling them as examples of “junk journalism” that should be unequivocally rejected. They criticized Sahara Reporters for spreading misinformation without having a resident reporter in Ebonyi State to provide accurate information or seek the government’s perspective on the matters at hand.

The NUJ Ebonyi State Council highlighted Sahara Reporters’ reputation for disseminating falsehoods and fake news to the public and urged the platform to stop engaging in unethical journalism practices that damage its credibility.

The Council distanced itself from Sahara Reporters and cautioned the public to exercise caution when consuming content from the platform. They praised journalists and media outlets in Ebonyi State for upholding the standards of the profession and called on Sahara Reporters to change their ways or risk being remembered as a source of falsehoods and half-baked reports.

The NUJ Ebonyi State Council reiterated its support for journalists and media organizations in the state, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the ethical code of journalism while fulfilling their roles in society. They pledged to stand by journalists who uphold the principles of ethical journalism in the discharge of their duties.
