Battle For Kano Throne Takes New Twist As Emir Sanusi Wins

In a dramatic turn of events, the Federal Appeal Court in Abuja has struck out the fundamental human rights case filed by Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, against Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano.

The court’s decision has dealt a significant blow to Bayero’s claims, solidifying Sanusi II’s position as the rightful Emir of Kano.

The Appeal Court ruled that Bayero’s case lacked merit and was primarily related to chieftaincy matters, which fall outside the scope of fundamental human rights. The court also held that the Federal High Court had overstepped its bounds by intervening in a matter that should be resolved under the Kano State Emirate Council law.

However, in a surprising development, a Federal High Court in Kano has nullified the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, citing that the state government’s actions were in contempt of court. This ruling has raised questions about the legitimacy of Sanusi II’s position as Emir.

The battle for the Kano throne has been ongoing, with both Bayero and Sanusi II vying for control. The latest court rulings have added a new layer of complexity to the dispute, leaving the fate of the Kano Emirate hanging in the balance.
