Commuters Travelling For Festivities Laments Over gridlock

For Four days running gridlock has been experienced along Minna to Suleja, Maje to Jere and Abuja to Kaduna express ways.

It was gathered that a hold up traffic of mostly trailer trucks has engulfed from Maje in Suleja to Izom in Gurara local government area of Niger state while about four of the trailers had accidents but can not hindered free flow of traffic along the road.

It was further revealed that the hold up extended to Diko junction up to Jere in Kaduna state through Tafa also hindering flow of traffic along Kaduna – Abuja express way.

Stranded passengers and motorists were cited on both lanes of the roads who have already spent days experiencing hardships including hunger because some motorcycles were seen taking bread for sell along the road with good patronage.

A passengers, Musa Yahuza and Hajiya Salmat Ibn Kasim in an interview disclosed that they had to charter motorcycles from Jere in Kaduna state to Lambata in Gurara local government area of Niger at the cost of seven thousand five hundred naira.

Similarly, passengers from Suleja who could also afford have to climb motorcycle from Maje to Lambata at the cost of between N3,000 and N4,000 respectively.

Sources revealed that most of the vehicles and their drivers as well as the passengers slept on the road due to the gridlocks being experienced in the last four days, however from Suleja to Lambata non of the Federal Road Safety Commission personnel and Nigerian Police was cited to help in bringing the menace to an end at the time of our visit.

The Niger state command of FRSC and Niger State Police Command is yet to issue official statement to that effect however motorists plying the Suleja – Minna road should find an alternative route through Lambata to Gwagwalada or other alternatives to avoid being caught up in the traffic.
