Troops storm Kwara hideouts, dismantle suspected terror camps

Nigerian troops have destroyed suspected terrorist enclaves in Kwara State, recovering weapons during a coordinated clearance operation in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 22 Brigade under Operation Safe South-South, reportedly began in the early hours of April 24, targeting areas believed to harbour criminal elements.

According to security sources, the troops advanced from Kamenji towards Tungan Mariga before moving into Nuku village, where they uncovered and dismantled makeshift camps suspected to be used by insurgents.

During the raid, six Dane guns were recovered, reinforcing concerns about the presence of armed groups in the area.

The troops later proceeded to Woro village, where the commanding officer assessed the progress of the operation and addressed personnel on the ground.

Additional military support, including an armoured personnel carrier equipped with a QJC weapon system, was deployed to strengthen the mission and enhance operational effectiveness.

Military authorities said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminal elements and restore security in affected communities.

They added that clearance operations would continue across identified hotspots to restrict the movement and activities of suspected terrorists in the region.
