Trump says Iran ready to surrender enriched uranium in peace deal talks

United States President Donald Trump has claimed Washington and Tehran are on the verge of reaching a fresh agreement, saying Iran has agreed to relinquish its stockpile of enriched uranium.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday before departing for Las Vegas, Trump said negotiations had advanced significantly.

“We’re very close to making a deal with Iran,” he said.

Trump added that a key priority for the United States was ensuring Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.

“We had to make sure that Iran never gets a nuclear weapon… They’ve totally agreed to that. They’ve agreed to almost everything, so maybe if they can get to the table, there’s a difference,” he stated.

The US leader also suggested he could travel to Pakistan if a final agreement is signed there.

“I might go, yeah. If the deal is signed in Islamabad, I might go,” Trump said.

According to him, Iranian officials have also agreed to transfer their reserve of enriched uranium, which he referred to as “nuclear dust”.

“They’ve agreed to give us back the nuclear dust,” he said.

Trump praised Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military leadership for helping facilitate the diplomatic engagement.

Reports indicate US Vice President JD Vance led an American delegation to Islamabad last weekend for talks with Iranian representatives, although no final breakthrough was reached at the time.

The White House is now said to be considering a second round of negotiations, with Pakistan again emerging as a possible venue.
