NRC Increases Trips on Abuja–Kaduna Train Corridor

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion and adjustment of train services on the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) in response to rising passenger demand.

The revised timetable, effective from Friday, March 6, 2026, aims to provide more travel options, improve operational flexibility, and enhance service delivery along the busy corridor connecting the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.

According to NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the schedule accommodates different travel patterns throughout the week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, two daily services will run, departing from Idu at 8:45 a.m. and returning from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m. On Fridays and Sundays, three trips are scheduled, leaving Idu at 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., and departing Rigasa at 11:30 a.m. Saturdays and Mondays also feature three services, with departures from Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and from Idu at 11:00 a.m. All trains will stop at Kubwa.

The NRC noted that the corridor previously faced operational disruptions due to events such as the March 28, 2022 bomb blast and the August 26, 2025 derailment, which temporarily reduced train availability. With improved stability and sustained demand, the corporation is now restoring and expanding services to better meet commuter needs. Passengers are advised to consult the new timetable when planning journeys.
