Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Demands Probe into Attack on Obi, Odigie-Oyegun

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has called on security agencies to investigate an alleged attack on former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun in Edo State.

Describing the incident as “deeply disturbing,” the senator warned that rising political hostility threatens Nigeria’s democratic stability.

“This development has no place in our democracy. Politics must never descend into violence, intimidation, or threats against perceived opponents,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said. She also expressed concern over overzealous political actors targeting opposition figures to demonstrate loyalty to leaders.

The attack reportedly occurred during political activities surrounding the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the ADC. Videos circulated by campaign aides showed damaged SUVs and a gate riddled with bullets at Odigie-Oyegun’s residence.

The senator urged thorough investigations to hold perpetrators accountable and emphasized that democracy thrives on healthy competition, free expression, and protection of dissenting voices.

“As a Senator, I remain committed to defending democratic principles, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation,” she added.
