Mexican President Assures Safety of World Cup Fans

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has assured football supporters that authorities will guarantee their safety during World Cup matches scheduled for Guadalajara.

Her remarks followed a wave of violence triggered by the killing of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho,” during a military operation near Jalisco.

The cartel’s retaliation led to clashes with security forces that left dozens dead and caused panic among residents and visitors.

Despite the incidents, Sheinbaum said there was no threat to fans attending the tournament and confirmed that security measures had been strengthened.

Guadalajara is one of the cities selected to host matches in the World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with the United States and Canada.
