Wike Can Support Any Candidate — APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed that Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has the constitutional right to back any candidate of his choice during elections. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said Wike’s political actions fall within his rights as a citizen. He highlighted that every Nigerian, including Wike, has the freedom to participate in democracy, hold personal opinions, and support candidates lawfully.
Morka emphasized that the matter concerns Wike’s personal political stance rather than his official role as FCT Minister. He noted that if Wike chooses to campaign for candidates from any party, he is entitled to do so, and the public should allow political events to unfold naturally. When asked whether the APC would accept similar actions if Wike were a party member, Morka declined to speculate, stressing that Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that the PDP should manage its internal affairs.
Despite serving in an APC-led administration, Wike has repeatedly rejected plans to defect, calling the PDP “a house he built” and pledging to stay and address internal challenges. He has publicly expressed support for President Bola Tinubu, endorsing the Renewed Hope Agenda through 2031 and confirming he will not contest against the president in the 2027 elections. During the recent FCT Area Council elections, Wike campaigned openly for candidates aligned with President Tinubu, contributing to APC victories in five of six councils, with some PDP candidates stepping aside to support APC contenders due to Wike’s influence.
