Makinde Signs ₦892 Billion 2026 Oyo State Budget into Law

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, totaling ₦892 billion, into law. The governor described the budget as production-focused, aimed at reducing reliance on federal allocations and fostering sustainable economic growth.

Makinde emphasized that the budget prioritizes productive projects over consumption and may be supplemented during the year if financial surpluses arise. He highlighted infrastructure improvements, such as the Oyo-Iseyin Road and the Fasola Farm Estate, as examples of how targeted investments can stimulate local economic activity.

Acknowledging support from the Oyo State House of Assembly, traditional leaders, and labor unions, Makinde noted that collaboration across stakeholders has been critical to the administration’s achievements. He pledged to continue serving the state diligently until the end of his term in May 2027.

The Speaker of the House praised the budget for its boldness and its potential to improve citizens’ quality of life, while assuring full legislative oversight to ensure proper implementation. The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning noted that the 2026 budget focuses on transformational projects intended to position Oyo State as a significant economic hub.
