Breaking: Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval to Deploy Troops to Benin
President Bola Tinubu has formally asked the Senate to approve the deployment of Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin for combat operations. His request, presented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary, was made under Section 5(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Tinubu explained that the move was necessary to support peacekeeping efforts in Benin, following an appeal from the neighboring country. He emphasized Nigeria’s longstanding ties of friendship and brotherhood with Benin as part of the justification.
