Osimhen Named Turkish Super Lig’s Most Valuable Player
Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has hailed Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the most valuable player in the Turkish Super Lig, following reports valuing the forward at €150 million amid renewed transfer interest.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray permanently from Napoli last summer for a record-breaking €75 million, making him the most expensive signing in Turkish football history. After a successful loan spell, the 26-year-old has continued to impress, scoring nine goals in 12 matches across all competitions, including a Champions League hat-trick against Ajax.
Top European clubs including Chelsea, PSG, Manchester United, and Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Osimhen ahead of the January transfer window. However, Galatasaray is said to be holding firm, with Özbek declining to confirm the €150 million valuation but affirming the striker’s status.
“Osimhen is one of the most valuable footballers in Türkiye,” Özbek stated at an awards event in Istanbul. “There is one thing all Turkish football fans agree on: he’s the league’s most valuable player.”
Under the terms of his transfer, Napoli will receive 10% of any future sale, and Osimhen cannot be sold to an Italian club until 2027.
Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Troy Deeney expressed surprise at Osimhen’s current club situation, questioning why a player of his caliber isn’t leading the line for one of Europe’s elite teams.
“Victor Osimhen is a goalscorer. Why is he in Turkey and not at a top club?” Deeney asked during a segment on CBS Sports Golazo.
