Dokubo Issues Defiant Response to US Military Threat Over Nigeria

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has issued a strong warning to the United States government and its military over recent threats of intervention in Nigeria. The warning follows allegations of Christian genocide in the country, which prompted US President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).

In a video released via Facebook on 3 November, Dokubo, who leads the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), condemned the proposed military action and declared that any incursion would be met with lethal resistance. He described the United States as “a sick country” and criticized President Trump’s foreign policy approach.

Dokubo stated that Nigeria would become a graveyard for American troops if they attempted to intervene, asserting his readiness to defend the country. He also dismissed the religious framing of the conflict, noting his own Muslim identity and calling for a broader understanding of the situation.

The video emerged amid heightened diplomatic tensions following Trump’s CPC designation and threats to dismantle terrorist networks in Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu has denied the genocide claims and expressed willingness to collaborate with US authorities.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), said Tinubu is strategically positioned to manage the situation and described the US stance as part of a broader geopolitical maneuver.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth reiterated the administration’s readiness to act if Nigeria fails to safeguard its citizens, citing concerns over targeted attacks on Christians.
