Bauchi Enacts Law To Curb Child Trafficking, Abduction, Warn Against Violation

Bauchi state government has formulated a Law with Order 002, 2025 with a view to addressing the menace of child trafficking and abduction.

Governor Bala Mohammed of the state while signing the Executive bill passed by the state Assembly into Law on Tuesday, pointed out that the decisive action comes following the recent incident where seven children were rescued from a syndicate operating in the southeastern part of the country.

The Executive Order introduces several key provisions designed to prevent child abduction and trafficking.

In it, Landlords are now required to verify the identity of prospective tenants, ensuring that individuals with malicious intentions are identified and prevented from renting properties.

According to the Law, Tenants must present themselves to community heads for verification, fostering a sense of community responsibility and accountability while Public transport unions must verify the identity of individuals traveling with children and minors, reporting any suspicious conduct to the authorities.

The Governor reiterated the importance of community trust and insurance and urged the need for collective responsibility in maintaining security and safety.

He also tasked landlords, tenants, community leaders, and transport unions to strictly adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Executive Order, warning that anyone found violating the provisions would be sanctioned.

Bala Mohammed noted that the signing of the Executive Order 002, 2025 is a significant achievement in Bauchi’s dedication to protecting its most vulnerable citizens.

He said, as the state continue to grapple with the challenges of child abduction and trafficking, the bold action is an indication that Bauchi is dedicated to creating a safer and more secured environment for the children.
