Ebonyi Attorney General lauds Gov’s wife for offsetting fines of 41 inmates

The Ebonyi state Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Odo, has lauded the gesture of Chief Mrs. Maudlin Uzomaka Nwifuru, the Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, for offsetting fines of 41 inmates option for bail in Abakaliki Correctional Center.
Odo expressed his appreciation for the Governor’s wife during her visit to the Abakaliki Correctional Centre were she facilitated the granting of freedom to inmates who had been serving sentences for capital offenses, and their release is seen as a significant step towards prison reform and rehabilitation in Ebonyi State.
The commissioner , however highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for reintegration into society for the inmates, in order to prevent them from reoffending.
He further stated that the mrs Nwifuru’s act of clemency was commended for giving these individuals a second chance at life and for promoting a more humane approach to criminal justice.
” This inmates needs support and guidance for them to transit back into society.
“The release of the 41 inmates is viewed as a positive step towards promoting a more rehabilitative and restorative justice system in Ebonyi State.
” I want to expressed my gratitude to Chief Mrs. Maudline Uzomaka Nwifuru for her philanthropic act and urged for continued efforts towards criminal justice reform in the Ebonyi” Odo said
The event at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre was attended by various stakeholders in the justice system, who echoed their support for initiatives that aim to reduce overcrowding in correctional facilities and provide avenues for rehabilitation.
