Police arrest two gunrunners, recover weapons in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected gun runners, Zubairu Musa, 40, and Nasiru Saidu, 17, who are natives of Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina state.

The suspects were nabbed by officers from 47 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Zaria, during a routine vehicular patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road, in the state.

The state Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mansir Hassan said in a statement on Friday that the suspects were found in possession of eight locally made pump-action guns, one locally made pistol, and sixty-five live cartridges.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the illegal trafficking of firearms.

The police spokesman quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi, to have commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

The statement read, “On 5th December 2024, At about 11:35 hours, officers from 47 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Zaria. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of illegal arms within the state, intercepted two suspects during a routine vehicular patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road.

“The suspects, identified as Zubairu Musa, 40, and Nasiru Saidu, 17, both natives of Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State, were found in possession of a bag containing, eight locally made pump-action guns, one locally made pistol and 65 live cartridges.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the illegal trafficking of firearms.

“They are currently cooperating with the police to aid in the apprehension of their accomplices and to uncover the full extent of the gun running network within the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi commends the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order,” the statement read. He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
