Lamido reaffirms loyalty to PDP, slams party hoppers 

A founding father of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has criticised prominent politicians in Nigeria for abandoning their party and aligning with smaller parties built by others.

Lamido, who governed Jigawa state for eight years, reaffirmed commitment to the PDP, saying he would not leave despite its internal crisis. 

He vowed that he would rather stay and solve it.

Lamido stated this weekend while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the PDP stakeholders’ meeting held in Dutse , the Jigawa state capital.

He said the meeting was convened by leaders to discuss the future of the party amid internal disagreements and increasing defections.

“PDP is my political home. It may have problems, but it remains my home. I will not abandon it for another party,” he stated.

The former governor cautioned that abandoning the party due to its challenges is not the answer, comparing it to deserting one’s family in times of difficulty.

“Leaving your home because it has challenges is not the solution,” he added.

Lamido further alleged that some politicians are now attempting to dominate or “take over” smaller political platforms, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from their original founders.

“They left their big home and now want to take over smaller parties built by others,” he said, warning that such actions could undermine political integrity and party development.

Lamido stated that the PDP’s problems should be resolved through internal reforms and collective responsibility rather than defections.

He urged party members to stay committed and work together to rebuild and strengthen the party from within.
