Cross River Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Over Alleged Violent Conduct

The Cross River State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Obubra I State Constituency, Dickson Ovat Agbor, indefinitely over alleged violent conduct.

The decision was taken during plenary after a motion was moved by Davies Etta and seconded by Francis Asuquo.

During deliberations, lawmakers condemned the alleged incident involving Agbor, describing the behaviour as unbecoming of a legislator and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government.

Following discussions on the motion, the House resolved to place the lawmaker on indefinite suspension from all legislative activities.

The Assembly also approved the formation of a committee to investigate the matter and present its findings to the House for further legislative action.

After the resolution was adopted, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant-at-Arms in line with the directive of the House.

Speaking after the decision, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, said the Assembly remained committed to maintaining discipline, dignity, and the integrity of the legislature.

Ayambem stressed that lawmakers must conduct themselves in a way that reflects the confidence placed in them by their constituents.

According to the House, the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of the investigation by the committee set up to examine the allegations.
