Wike Says He Is Watching Oyo PDP Closely, Warns Against Internal Sabotage

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he is paying close attention to developments within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State, insisting that his interest is driven by the need to protect the party from internal sabotage and ensure its survival nationwide.

Wike made the remarks while addressing members of the PDP National Executive Committee during its 105th meeting in Abuja. According to him, his concern extends beyond Oyo State and reflects a broader commitment to strengthening the party across all states of the federation.

He said the PDP must resist attempts by what he described as “vampires” seeking to hijack its structures, warning that such elements pose a serious threat to the party’s future. The former Rivers State governor dismissed claims that party members were being intimidated, arguing that recent court rulings had weakened any such tactics.

Wike also urged party members to return to grassroots mobilisation, cautioning against entitlement and complacency. He rejected the notion that political relevance depends solely on having incumbent governors, recalling that he rose through the party ranks without holding executive office at the time.

Despite ongoing legal and internal challenges, Wike expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience, stressing that the party remains strong enough to recover and reposition itself as a formidable opposition force.
