Roy Keane: Carrick Not Fit for Permanent United Role

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has voiced doubts over the suitability of Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent manager, despite praising recent performances by the team. Speaking after United’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Keane acknowledged improvements in form but argued that United requires a manager with greater experience and a proven track record to compete for league titles.

Keane said, “Even if United were to win every match until the end of the season, I still wouldn’t be convinced that Carrick is the man to lead them to league success. The club needs a manager capable of consistently winning titles.”

While commending the team’s display and composure during the match, including the impact of substitutes, Keane stressed that temporary success is insufficient for long-term goals. Former defender Gary Neville shared a similar sentiment, suggesting Carrick remain in charge until season’s end but recommending a world-class manager such as Thomas Tuchel or Carlo Ancelotti for the permanent role.

Carrick, who assumed interim responsibilities following Ruben Amorim’s departure, described his short tenure as a beginning phase and emphasized the need for gradual improvements. He praised the players’ collective effort and the contributions from the bench, noting the positive atmosphere created among the squad and supporters.
