President Donald Trump has ordered the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organisations, describing the move as a necessary step to protect national interests and redirect resources toward domestic priorities.

The directive, issued through a Presidential Memorandum, instructs federal agencies to end participation and funding for 35 non-UN organisations and 31 United Nations entities deemed inconsistent with US sovereignty, economic interests, or security objectives.

According to the White House, the decision followed an extensive review of America’s involvement in international institutions, concluding that many of them deliver minimal value despite significant financial contributions from US taxpayers.

The administration said the withdrawals are part of a broader effort to restore national independence, reduce wasteful spending, and refocus on priorities such as infrastructure, border security, and military readiness.

Officials acknowledged that the move may attract criticism but maintained that future international engagement must align clearly with American

interests.
