Insecurity: FG Charges Senior Immigration Officers on Vigilance

The Federal Government has urged senior officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to demonstrate heightened vigilance and professionalism amid the country’s evolving security challenges.

The charge was delivered by the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, during the decoration ceremony of 46 newly promoted Comptrollers in Abuja.

Nandap reminded the officers that promotion within a disciplined service is earned through dedication, integrity, and professional competence, rather than longevity alone. She stressed that the new ranks come with increased responsibility and an expectation of exemplary conduct.

She commended the administration’s commitment to institutional reforms and national security, noting that the ongoing transformation within the Immigration Service is driven by a broader agenda to strengthen security institutions across the country.

The Immigration chief also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Interior for providing strategic leadership and oversight that has enhanced the Service’s operational effectiveness.

Addressing the newly promoted officers, Nandap said their elevation symbolises trust and confidence, adding that they are now expected to demonstrate sound judgment, accountability, strong leadership, and the capacity to mentor others.

She warned that the Service would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, urging officers to embrace innovation, adapt to emerging threats, and place institutional interests above personal considerations.

Nandap highlighted ongoing reforms within the Service, including improvements to visa and passport processes, contactless service solutions, the EMBIC system, and the planned introduction of the Single Travel Emergency Passport, expected to replace the Emergency Travel Certificate in 2026.

While congratulating the promoted officers, she acknowledged the sacrifices made by their families and encouraged personnel who were not promoted to remain committed, assuring them that dedication would eventually be rewarded.

In his remarks, the Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Human Resources Management, Afolayan Ayeni, noted that prompt promotion of personnel has been prioritised under current reforms, yielding positive results. Of the 46 officers promoted, one passed away before the ceremony, while seven had already retired prior to the release of the promotion list.
