Wike Re-Awards Apo–Karshi Road Contract

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road project has been terminated and re-awarded to S.C.C Nigeria Limited, following years of inactivity by the former contractor, Kakatar Engineering Limited.

Wike made the disclosure on Thursday while inspecting ongoing road projects in Karu, Gishiri and the Apo–Wassa corridor of the Outer Southern Expressway. The 13-kilometre Apo–Karshi Road was first awarded in 2011 under the administration of former FCT Minister Bala Mohammed, with an expected delivery period of 20 months. Fourteen years later, the project remained unfinished.

During an earlier visit in 2024, Wike had expressed doubts about the contractor’s capacity, attributing the delays to political interference. Despite assurances from the contractor at the time, the project still failed to move at the required pace.

Speaking to journalists, Wike said the contract had now been voided and reassigned under an emergency arrangement, adding that S.C.C has already mobilised to site. He also announced the commencement of a new road project connecting Kubwa to the Bwari Area Council, which has likewise been awarded to S.C.C.

According to him, the new projects will ease traffic pressures and provide alternative routes for commuters. He stressed that his administration would not play politics with infrastructure delivery.

Wike further stated that the FCT would not initiate new projects in 2026, describing the year as politically sensitive. He explained that the focus would be on completing all ongoing projects that will be featured in the 2026 budget, ensuring that they are finished within the current administration’s tenure.
