Lagos Announces Eight-Month Traffic Diversion on Lekki–Ajah Corridor

The Lagos State Government has announced that road rehabilitation works on the Lekki–Ajah corridor will begin on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and run until Wednesday, July 15, 2026 — a period of eight months.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Wednesday, the government explained that the project aims to improve road quality and ease traffic flow along one of the state’s busiest routes.

Osiyemi said the rehabilitation, already in its preliminary stage, would be carried out in two phases to minimise disruptions to motorists and businesses operating along the corridor.

Phase 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate

According to the commissioner, this phase will cover seven sections of the expressway.
“During construction, one lane will be closed while motorists use the other. When the closed lane is completed, work will shift to the remaining lane. Motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah will have continuous access throughout this phase,” the statement read.

Phase 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge

The second phase will cover four sections of the road. Motorists coming from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to a single lane during repairs, while work progresses on the other. Upon completion of one lane, construction will move to the next, ensuring continuous movement toward Ajah.

The Lagos State Government appealed for patience and cooperation from residents and commuters, noting that some sections of the corridor will experience partial closures during the rehabilitation period.

“These repairs are part of the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure and ensure smoother vehicular movement across Lagos,” Osiyemi stated.

He added that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and infrastructural renewal, urging road users to obey traffic management officials deployed to maintain order during the period.
