Oyo North PDP Leaders Reaffirm Loyalty to Governor Makinde Amid Defection

Despite the recent departure of former Senate Chief Whip Ayoola Agboola from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leaders of the party in Oyo North Senatorial District have pledged unwavering support for Governor Seyi Makinde.

Following a strategic meeting held in Iseyin, party executives from across the 13 local government areas in the district issued a joint statement expressing confidence in Makinde’s leadership and reaffirming their commitment to the PDP’s continued dominance in the region.

Senator Agboola, once a close ally of the governor and a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, recently exited the party along with a handful of loyalists. However, PDP leaders in the district dismissed the move as inconsequential, citing Agboola’s limited contribution to the party’s success in the 2023 elections.

The statement, signed by the district’s PDP Senatorial Chairman, Yinusa Yusuff, emphasized that the defection was driven by personal ambition rather than genuine political grievances. It accused Agboola of previously manipulating party structures for his own benefit and asserted that the people of Oyo North would not allow individual interests to undermine collective progress.

Highlighting Governor Makinde’s achievements, the communiqué listed several infrastructure projects that have transformed the district, including:

• Ibadan–Iseyin Road
• Oyo–Iseyin Road
• Iseyin–Fapote–Ogbomoso Road
• Saki Township Road
• Iganna–Elekookan–Igangan Road (partial rehabilitation)
• Ijio–Idiko Ile–Ayegun–Wasinmi Road (ongoing)
• Saki–Ogbooro–Igboho Road (reconstruction)
• Planned rehabilitation of 30km Ogbomoso inner roads
• Construction of LAUTECH Campus in Iseyin

These developments, according to the party leaders, have significantly improved the quality of life in the district and strengthened public support for the governor.

The PDP in Oyo North also announced renewed efforts in voter mobilization and registration, aiming to consolidate its influence ahead of future elections. The leaders expressed confidence that the party remains the leading political force in the district and across the state.
