keja Electric, LECAN Train 100 Young Electricians on Safety and Industry Standards

Over 100 young electricians and field technicians were trained in Lagos on Monday, October 13, 2025, during a one-day capacity-building programme jointly organised by Ikeja Electric Plc and the Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN).

The training, themed “Electrical Safety and Best Practices in the Electricity Industry,” was part of Ikeja Electric’s ongoing investment in human capital development and community safety initiatives. Participants engaged in practical sessions on safety procedures, alternative power integration, and modern electrical installation standards.

Speaking during the event, LECAN Lagos State Chairman, Bada Waheed, praised Ikeja Electric for championing the professional growth of young electricians, describing the collaboration as a model for industry partnership. He said the initiative reflects a commitment to nurturing local talent and bridging the gap between theoretical learning and field application.

In his remarks, Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, explained that the workshop was designed to strengthen technical competence and promote safety consciousness within the energy value chain.

“Electricity is a powerful tool that demands responsibility and precision,” Okotie said. “Through this training, we are reinforcing our zero-harm culture by equipping participants with the right knowledge to execute their work safely and efficiently.”

One of the participants, Makinde Adeyinka, described the experience as “eye-opening and impactful,” noting that it broadened his understanding of installation standards and professional ethics.

The initiative forms part of Ikeja Electric’s broader commitment to workplace safety, operational excellence, and youth empowerment. Both organisations pledged to sustain similar programmes to ensure safer communities and continuous professional development within Nigeria’s power sector.
