Wale Tinubu Receives Africa Energy Lifetime Achievement Award

Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu, has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at Africa Energy Week 2025 for his decades-long contribution to Africa’s energy industry.

The Africa Energy Chamber, organisers of the award, praised Tinubu’s leadership in building Oando into one of Africa’s leading integrated energy companies, citing his resilience, vision, and role in strengthening Africa’s energy security.

In its statement, Oando Plc noted that Tinubu transformed the company from a local downstream operator into a multinational player spanning exploration and production, power, and renewables. His career, the statement added, symbolises African ingenuity, ambition, and resilience.

The award is considered one of the most prestigious honours of the Africa Energy Week, previously given to leaders such as Afreximbank President Benedict Oramah (2024), former Namibian President Hage Geingob, Senegal’s former President Macky Sall (2023), and Congo’s Hydrocarbons Minister Bruno Itoua (2022).

Oando highlighted Tinubu’s consistent advocacy for African energy independence and his role in shaping policy and business partnerships across the continent.

Earlier this year, Oando Energy Resources, the company’s upstream subsidiary, was awarded operatorship of Block KON 13 in Angola’s Onshore Kwanza Basin, a block with prospective resources of up to 1.1 billion barrels of oil.
