Reflective Jackets Now Compulsory for Night Courier Services in Lagos

The Lagos State Government has introduced new safety regulations requiring all courier and dispatch riders operating between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to wear reflective jackets. Their motorcycles and bicycles must also be fitted with reflective tapes to improve visibility during night operations.

The Ministry of Transportation disclosed the directive in a statement issued on Sunday, explaining that it forms part of efforts to reduce road accidents involving dispatch riders.

According to the statement, riders must comply with the new rules or risk sanctions from agencies such as the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS). Delivery companies were also urged to educate their riders and enforce compliance.

The directive comes amid growing safety concerns over the rising number of road crashes involving couriers, especially during night-time deliveries. Lagos residents rely heavily on dispatch services for food, parcels, and e-commerce, making rider safety a pressing issue.

In response to the directive, Glovo Nigeria announced it would distribute 3,000 reflective vests to its delivery partners as part of compliance efforts.
