FG Sets September Dates for Second Round of Integrated Vaccination in 11 High-Risk States

The Federal Government has announced the second phase of its integrated vaccination campaign, scheduled to run from September 11 to 14, 2025, across 11 high-risk states. Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State disclosed the plan following the 151st National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held at the State House in Abuja, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The campaign will target children aged 0–14 years and deliver vaccines for measles, rubella, and polio, alongside seasonal malaria chemoprevention and interventions for neglected tropical diseases. Despite Nigeria’s polio-free status declared in 2020, a new variant has emerged in the Northwest and border regions with Chad and Cameroon. Yahaya noted a drop in recorded cases from 78 in 2024 to 42, with Kano and Kaduna states showing reductions of 85% and 84%, respectively.

The NEC urged Deputy Governors to convene pre-campaign coordination meetings, especially in Kano, Jigawa, and Sokoto, and recommended post-campaign reviews led by State Commissioners of Health. Security agencies have been directed to provide coverage in vulnerable areas, while the Accountant General of the Federation was tasked with expediting fund releases to support the nationwide effort.

The first round of the campaign reached approximately 2.7 million children, achieving 83% coverage across northern Nigeria. The second round aims to consolidate those gains and expand protection against childhood diseases.
