Gombe State Earmarks Over ₦2 Billion for Rural Infrastructure and Solar Lighting

The Gombe State Government has approved more than ₦2 billion for various infrastructure projects aimed at improving security, supporting agriculture, and enhancing access to public utilities across rural communities.

The funds will finance additional work on agricultural development projects and the installation of solar-powered street lighting systems in underserved areas.

Key components of the funding include solar streetlights in six Nafada communities and new lighting systems along roads in the Tumfure area of Akko Local Government Area. The government also revised plans for the Kaltoma market in Billiri, upgrading it to a storey building structure with increased budget allocation.

Meanwhile, a payroll audit led by Kwami Local Government revealed 686 workers absent from duty and flagged 265 deceased or retired staff still drawing salaries. This exercise saved the government ₦67 million in April alone.

These initiatives are part of a broader development drive in the state, which recently saw approval of nearly ₦20 billion for projects in water supply, education, and environmental management.
